What it costs to start a bin cleaning business
What it really costs to start a bin cleaning business in 2026: six equipment setups from $3,500 to $155,000, plus insurance, licenses, software and launch.

You can start a bin cleaning business for about $3,500 or for $155,000. The difference is the rig: how much water it carries, whether the water is hot, how the cart gets lifted, and whether the dirty water is captured. Everything else in the startup budget is a few thousand dollars.
This lesson prices every setup with real, listed prices from October 2026, then adds the rest of the budget. Lesson 3 explains each part of a rig and what to look for when you buy.
The six setups at a glance
Most new operators buy a turnkey single-bin trailer. Here’s what each setup buys you, cheapest first.
Setup 1: a pickup-bed setup ($3,500 to $14,100)
A pressure washer, a water tank and a wand in the bed of a truck you already own.
| What | Listed price |
|---|---|
| 4,000 PSI, 4 gallon-a-minute belt-drive washer | $2,399 |
| 200-gallon water tank | $899 |
| Spray gun, lance and chemical injector | about $80 to $140 |
| Gloves, glasses, rain suit, earplugs | about $44 |
| Degreaser, 5 gallons | $119.99 |
| The basic kit | about $3,500 to $3,600 |
| A cart tipper (Solus Bin Blaster) | $5,700 |
| A 360° spinner head | $1,999 |
| A wash-water recovery unit | about $2,860 |
| With all three | about $14,100 |
Prices from 3R Pressure Washers, Cigar City Softwash, Harbor Freight, Solus, Garbage Can Cleaning and SCE. Our arithmetic.
The catch: without a tipper, a spinner head and a way to capture water, it’s slow and messy. A basic washer uses more water a bin, so a 200-gallon tank covers maybe 40 to 65 bins before you refill. And the cheap version only works where you can legally catch and dump the water, which is the hard part (Lesson 5).
Who it suits: testing demand on weekends, or a pressure-washing company adding bins.

Setup 2: build your own trailer ($21,700 to $41,300)
You buy a kit (the wash chamber, a lift and a spinner head), mount it on a trailer, and add your own washer and tanks.
| Kit | Price | What you still buy |
|---|---|---|
| Hot and Mighty dual bin cleaner | $12,490 | Washer (8 or 10 GPM), trailer, tanks |
| Atomic Bin Systems, packages 1 to 3 | $13,500 to $17,500 plus shipping | Head (on package 1), trailer, washer, tanks |
| The Bin Trailer Core Wash System | $14,999 | Washer, fresh tank, a deck at least 10 × 6 ft |
| Garbage Can Cleaning DIY kit, wrap included | $25,000 | Trailer, washer, tank |
Here’s what one kit build costs with every part new:
| Part | Price |
|---|---|
| 6 × 12 ft aluminum tandem trailer | $9,999.99 |
| Core Wash System kit | $14,999 |
| 8 gallon-a-minute belt-drive washer | $4,899 |
| Fuel tank, hose and gun for the washer | $525 |
| 200-gallon tank | $899 |
| Hand-crank hose reel | $376 |
| Total, before freight, fittings, labor and a wrap | $31,698 |
That’s about $1,700 more than a turnkey trailer that comes wrapped (The Bin Trailer). Building only saves money if you already own the trailer or the washer, or buy parts used. One estimate puts a build at 80 to 150 hours of your time.

Setup 3: a skid for your truck ($28,000 to $55,000)
A skid is a turnkey unit that sits in a pickup bed or on a flatbed. No trailer to tow or park.
- Kraken Truck Pod: from $27,999 cold or $31,999 hot. Fits an 8-foot bed, 150-gallon tank (Kraken).
- Garbage Can Cleaning Truck Skid: $40,000. Hot water, 280 gallons, a gas-assisted lifter (GCC).
- Viking Upfit skids: $44,995 and $54,995 with the same listed features, so ask what the difference buys (Viking Upfit).
- Sparkling Bins SB3: price on request. It needs a 3/4-ton pickup rated 10,000 lb or more with an 8-foot bed (Sparkling Bins).
Skids work well on tight streets and where you can’t park a trailer at home. They carry less water, so you refill more often.
Setup 4: a turnkey single-bin trailer ($25,000 to $65,000)
Built, plumbed, tested and usually wrapped by the builder. This is where most new operators land.
| Trailer | Price | What stands out |
|---|---|---|
| Kraken Eco Cold | $24,999 | Cold water, two 250-gallon tanks, no lift arm |
| The Bin Trailer Single Cold | $29,999 | Cold, manual lift, wrap included, $299 paperwork fee |
| Kraken Trailer Combo | from $39,999 | Hot water standard, closed 250/250-gallon tanks |
| The Bin Trailer Double Hot | $45,999 | Hot water, tandem axle with brakes. “Double” is the axle: it cleans one bin at a time |
| Viking Upfit PL225T | $49,995 | Hot, 225 gallons |
| Garbage Can Cleaning single, assisted lift | $55,000 | Hot, 380 gallons, about 5,700 lb full |
| Garbage Can Cleaning single, hydraulic lift | $63,000 | Push-button lift |
| Viking Upfit TC270T | $64,995 | Hot, 8 gallons a minute, hydraulic lift |
Prices as listed on each builder’s site in October 2026 (The Bin Trailer, Kraken, Garbage Can Cleaning, Viking Upfit). Tax, title, freight and paperwork fees are extra almost everywhere.
Watch out: The same builder can show different prices on different pages. The Bin Trailer lists its Single Cold at $27,999, $28,999 and $29,999 in different places. Get the price, what’s included and the delivery date in writing.
Financing. The Bin Trailer advertises payments starting around $603 a month for its cold trailer and $935 for its hot one, depending on credit. Garbage Can Cleaning’s lender asks for a 670 credit score and up to 20% down. Lead times run from 4 to 6 weeks to 60 to 90 days, so order well before your launch date.
Setup 5: a dual-bin trailer ($45,000 to $85,000)
Two carts at a time, bigger tanks, hot water. It suits growing routes, HOA days and two-person crews.
- Kraken Trailer Combo Double: $44,999
- Garbage Can Cleaning double: $61,000 (assisted lift) or $70,000 (hydraulic)
- Rhino Services custom double-lifter trailer: $69,995
- Sparkling Bins SB2: price on request. The city of Madeira Beach, Florida paid $69,995 for one in 2023 (city memo)
- Viking Upfit TC525T: $84,995, with a 525-gallon tank and a vacuum recovery system
Bigger trailers need a bigger truck. Sparkling says its SB2 needs a truck rated to tow 10,000 lb, and a trailer rated over 10,000 lb can push you into needing a commercial driver’s license (Lesson 4).
Setup 6: a bin cleaning truck ($46,000 used to $155,000 new)
| Truck | Price |
|---|---|
| Used 2008 Ford F-550 with a 275/275-gallon system (forum listing, 2024) | $45,999 |
| Used 2010 to 2019 trucks from What A Bin | $95,000 to $129,000 |
| Kraken flatbed conversion, your truck not included | from $38,999 |
| Viking Upfit TC525 on a new Isuzu NPR HD | $154,995 |
Trucks carry 525 to 925 gallons, enough for 300 to 500 maintenance cleanings a tank by the builders’ own claims, and they’re the usual base for dumpster work. A Boise operator puts its truck at about $160,000 new (Clean The Cans).
A truck only pays off on a dense route. In our model, a truck at stops two minutes apart brings in about $2,225 a route day, but only $556 when stops are twenty minutes apart. That’s less than a pickup setup brings in with stops five minutes apart ($742). Don’t buy one first.

Franchises: what you pay for a brand
| Franchise | Franchise fee | Total starting investment | Royalty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bin Blasters (Utah) | $30,000 | $83,050 to $158,900 | 6% |
| Bubble Binz (Nevada) | $40,000 | at least $100,000 in funding | 8% |
| Cantastic (Utah) | $50,000 | $268,000 to $311,000, with a $180,000 truck | 6% |
| G.I. Bins (Michigan) | $45,000 | $164,550 to $300,000 | not published |
| San-A-Can (Illinois) | not listed | $47,750 to $155,500 | not published |
Figures as published by the franchisors and franchise directories (Bin Blasters, Bubble Binz, Cantastic, G.I. Bins, Franchise Gator). Royalty figures for Bin Blasters and Bubble Binz come from directories. Confirm everything in the current franchise disclosure document before you sign.
The math: a 6% royalty on $14,000 a month of revenue is $840 a month, every month. In return you get a brand, a territory and training. The equipment is the same kind you can buy yourself. If you’d rather not go it alone, equipment builders like Sparkling Bins and The Bin Trailer sell training and setup help with no royalty.
The rest of the startup budget
| Item | What it costs | Lesson |
|---|---|---|
| LLC filing | $35 (Montana) to $500 (Massachusetts); Texas $300, Florida $125, Ohio $99 | 4 |
| EIN | Free | 4 |
| Trade name (DBA) | $25 to $50 where we checked, plus a newspaper notice in some places | 4 |
| Insurance | About $365 to $385 a month for liability, commercial auto and equipment | 4 |
| Permits | Often small: Fort Worth charges $25 a business and $25 a rig | 5 |
| Dump station account | King County, WA: $200 a year a truck, plus about 17¢ a gallon | 5 |
| Booking and billing software | $49 to $349 a month | 14 |
| Website | $17 to $40 a month on a builder, more done for you | 11 |
| Domain | About $11 a year | 10 |
| Wrap | Included with some trailers; otherwise $1,200 to $7,500 | 10 |
| Door hangers | About $140 per 1,000 | 10 |
| Chemicals | $50 to $120 a month on an early route | 3 |
Sources for each are in the lessons listed. Keep at least three months of fixed costs in the bank when you start. For a financed trailer and tow vehicle that’s about $6,750 (Lesson 7 has the monthly math).
Three example starting budgets
These are our examples, built from the prices above, not quotes.
| Side hustle | One trailer, financed | Used truck | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rig | About $8,000 cash (washer, tank, tipper, head) | $45,999 hot trailer, about $935 a month | About $46,000 to $100,000 |
| Cash for the rig on day one | $8,000 | Down payment, if any (up to 20%, about $9,200) | Down payment or cash |
| LLC, permits, domain, hangers | About $500 | About $1,000 | About $1,000 |
| First month of insurance and software | About $425 | About $455 | About $455 |
| Cash reserve | About $1,800 | About $6,750 | About $11,500 |
| Cash to start | About $10,700 | About $8,200 to $17,400 | Depends on financing |
The reserve is three months of fixed costs before marketing: payments, insurance, software, phone and upkeep (Lesson 7). The trailer column includes a $600 monthly payment on a truck to tow it. The side hustle assumes a truck you already own.
How to spend less
- Buy used. A 2023 Sparkling SB2 with 55 hours on it was listed for $47,500, about 32% under the $69,995 a city paid new (Western Equipment Finance). Lesson 3 has an inspection checklist.
- Add hot water later. A separate 8 gallon-a-minute hot box costs $3,499 to $4,099, so a cold washer plus a hot box comes to about $8,400 to $9,000, less than a $12,136-plus all-in-one hot washer.
- Pre-sell before you buy. Take founding-customer sign-ups before the rig arrives (Lesson 10). Twenty paid sign-ups on one trash day is proof you can use.
- Use the truck you have, if its ratings cover the loaded rig (Lesson 4).
- Don’t start with a truck. Fill a trailer first.
Key takeaways
- Equipment ranges from about $3,500 for a pickup-bed setup to $155,000 for a new truck. Most new operators buy a $25,000 to $65,000 turnkey trailer.
- Building your own trailer with new parts costs about the same as a turnkey one. It only saves money with parts you own or buy used.
- A franchise adds a $30,000 to $50,000 fee and a 6% to 8% royalty for a brand, a territory and training.
- Outside the rig, budget a few thousand dollars for setup, insurance and launch, plus three months of fixed costs in the bank.
- Get every price, inclusion and delivery date in writing. Builders’ pages disagree with themselves.
FAQ
What’s the cheapest way to start a bin cleaning business?
A pressure washer, a tank and hand tools in a pickup you already own, for about $3,500 to $3,600. It’s slow, and you still need a way to capture and legally dump the water, which can add a recovery unit, a tipper and a spinner head (about $14,100 all in). It’s a way to test demand, not a long-term setup.
Should I buy a trailer or a truck?
Start with a trailer unless you already have a dense route. A trailer costs $25,000 to $65,000 against $46,000 used to $155,000 new for a truck, and in our model a truck only earns more than a trailer when stops are close together. Some operators prefer trucks for speed and dumpster work; buy one when your route can carry the payment.
Can I finance bin cleaning equipment?
Yes. Builders work with equipment lenders: The Bin Trailer advertises payments from about $603 to $935 a month depending on the trailer and your credit, and Garbage Can Cleaning’s lender asks for a 670 credit score and up to 20% down. Don’t take on a payment your first 100 customers can’t cover.
Is a bin cleaning franchise worth it?
It depends on what you value. You pay $30,000 to $50,000 up front and 6% to 8% of revenue forever for a brand, a protected territory and training. The equipment is the same kind you could buy yourself. Read the franchise disclosure document, call current owners, and compare the total cost with buying a trailer outright.
How long does it take to get a bin cleaning trailer?
Builders quote anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks for stock units to 60 to 90 days for builds. Some owners have waited four months for a truck. Order early and use the wait to set up your business, website and first customers.
