The City of Virginia Beach Public Works Waste Management runs curbside service for about 125,000 homes: trash weekly (black cart), yard debris weekly, and recycling (blue cart) every other week on the same day as trash. Curbside recycling is collected under a city contract with TFC Recycling (renewed in 2024). Collections run Tuesday to Friday, never on Mondays. On a Thursday or Friday holiday, only that day's routes move to Saturday; all other days stay the same.

The city's curbside recycling contractor: blue carts every other week on your trash day. The city's recycling page doesn't name TFC and lists only the City Waste Management phone. Trade press reported in Oct 2024 that the city renewed TFC's contract, which could run up to 13 years. The city site doesn't say whether TFC or city crews do the pickups.

Recycling: every other week. Blue cart is collected 'every other week on your designated trash day.' Townhomes with 18-gallon bins may set extra recyclables in paper bags next to the bin.

Carts out: Put carts out between 5 p.m. the day before and 7 a.m. on collection day. Take them off the curb and out of public view by the end of collection day. Leave 3 feet of clearance on every side. Source

Report a missed pickup on collection day or by noon the next business day. The city says 'Waste Management collections ... do not operate on Mondays' (Labor Day 2026 notice), so Monday holidays don't affect pickup.
