Oakland uses two exclusive citywide franchise haulers split by material, not by area: Waste Management of Alameda County collects trash, compost (green cart) and bulky pickup, and California Waste Solutions (CWS) collects recycling for every Oakland household. All three carts go out weekly on the same service day, by 6 a.m. Pickup only moves for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day when they land on a weekday: that day and the rest of the week slide one day later, through Saturday.
