San José's Recycle Plus program uses private haulers by district. In Downtown, North, East and South San José (Districts A and C), Garden City Sanitation collects garbage and California Waste Solutions collects recycling. In West San José (District B), GreenTeam of San José collects both garbage and recycling. GreenWaste Recovery collects yard trimmings (in carts or loose piles in the street) and does street sweeping. All streams are weekly on the same day, and only Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day move pickup: that day and the rest of the week go one day later (Friday to Saturday).
Contracted haulers by area.
California Waste Solutions collects recycling in the same area (Districts A and C).
Its agreement with the City (amended and restated) runs July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2036.
Its City agreement (July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2036) gives GreenTeam exclusive single-family collection of garbage, recycling, large items and used oil in District B. The City's lookup page lists only GreenTeam for West San José, but the agreement leaves out yard trimmings, which go to the City's separate yard trimmings contractor.
Yard trimmings go loose in the street (piles up to 5 by 5 ft, at least 1 ft from the curb) or in an optional cart; carts are required in some areas. Residential streets are swept monthly, on the day after garbage day. In West San José, the City's lookup page doesn't clearly say who collects yard trimmings, so check your address with the lookup or call 311.
Apartments and condos are served separately by GreenTeam of San José under Recycle Plus multi-family service. Businesses are outside the residential program. Unincorporated 'San Jose' pockets are served under Santa Clara County (GreenWaste in the east, GreenTeam in the west) and aren't included.
Look up your address with the City's Utility Services Lookup or SJEnvironment.org/LookUp, or call 311. Garbage, recycling and yard trimmings are collected on the same weekday, Monday to Friday, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
