The City of Fort Worth's Solid Waste Services runs residential curbside service, with Waste Management (WM) providing curbside garbage and recycling citywide under a 12-year contract extension approved in 2021. Garbage (brown cart), recycling (blue cart) and yard waste (green cart) are all collected weekly on the same day, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Bulk is collected monthly in an assigned week. On the holidays that move pickup (Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day), the holiday's routes and any later routes that week slide one day, up to Saturday. The 2027 schedule, starting with New Year's Day, usually comes out in December.

WM collects under contract to the City of Fort Worth's Solid Waste Services. The city's garbage, recycling and bulk pages say 'curbside garbage and recycling services are provided by Waste Management.' Waste Today reported that the 2021 contract extension (12 years, about $479M) covers trash, recycling, yard waste and bulk; the city's own pages don't name the yard-waste or bulk collector. Knight Waste Services ran some north Fort Worth routes as a WM subcontractor until the council removed a minority-business clause in May 2024, and it no longer has a required share. Report service issues to the city (817-392-1234 or the MyFW app), not to WM; missed pickups must be reported within 24 hours after the collection day.

Cowboy Compost runs the city's residential food scrap composting program: a $20 subscription with a starter kit. There's no curbside organics pickup, so it doesn't affect cart cleaning schedules.

Not covered

Commercial and multifamily properties hire private haulers approved under the city's Grant of Privilege; the city doesn't haul their waste. The city's multifamily recycling rule treats 8 or more units as multifamily, but the city doesn't state the exact unit cutoff for city cart service.

How trash day works in Fort Worth

Each address has one weekly collection day (Monday to Friday) for garbage, recycling and yard waste, set by WM route. Look it up on the city's My Garbage and Recycling page or in its Garbage & Recycling app, or call 817-392-1234. Bulk is collected monthly in an assigned week, shown on the city's 2026 bulk collection map (PDF).
